Movie Review : The Hateful 8

“The Hateful 8” was released in the United States in 2015 and is in the genre of mystery and drama. This movie was written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The main characters in this movie are Marquis Warren played by Samuel L Jackson, John Roos played by Kurt Russell, Daisy Domelg played by Jennifer Jason Leigh, Chris Manix played by Walton Goggins, Bob played by Demian Bichir, Oswald Mobley played by Tim Roth, Joe Cage played by Michael Madsen and Sandy Smithers played by Bruce Dern. Ennio Morricone won the 73rd Golden Globe Award for Best Composition and the 69th British Academy Film Award for Best Composition. In addition, Quentin Tarantino was nominated for the Screenplay Award and Jennifer Jason Leigh was nominated for the Supporting Actress Award at the Golden Globe . Jennifer Jason Leigh has also been nominated for the 88th Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress. Box office receipt was about $150 million worldwide, about $54 million in the United States and Canada and about 240 million yen in Japan.

Next, I will introduce an outline of this movie’s story. This movie is a story a few years after the end of the American Civil War. The 8 characters mentioned as the main characters are depicted in six-chapter episodes format with a human pattern unfolding in a house trapped in a blizzard. As you can see from the title of the movie, the eight main characters lie, deceive each other, and try to achieve their purpose. Watch up to episode 3 and you may feel bored for this movie. To be honest, I was bored and tried to stop watching. But this story suddenly has a turn of events from episode 4. Some of the 8 main characters put poison in a pot of coffee to kill someone. The content from here will increase more and more lies, and accelerate to deceive. I’m sure those who watched episode 3 and feel bored will not be able to take their eyes off the screen from episode 4.

Finally, I will explain the impression of the movie. Overall, this movie was interesting. But honestly, this movie wasn’t interesting through episode 3. From episode 4, I watched this movie as if I were a detective rather than a spectator. The 8 main characters were so suspicious that I don’t know who was lying and who was trying to kill someone until the end. Jennifer Jason Leigh’s acting was realistic. I like the scene of shooting with a gun in the second half and last seen. Let me tell you last, it is not recommended for people who are not  good at seeing blood splatters and corpses.
